“We make men without chests and expect from them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honor and are shocked to find traitors in our midst.”
— C.S. Lewis, The Abolition of Man
The Tao, Natural Law, or Traditional Morality
“The Tao, which others may call Natural Law or Traditional Morality or the First Principles of Practical Reason or the First Platitudes, is not one among a series of possible systems of value. It is the sole source of all value judgments. If it is rejected, all value is rejected. If any value is retained, it is retained. The effort to refute it and raise a new system of value in its place is self-contradictory. There has never been, and never will be, a radically new judgment of value in the history of the world. What purport to be new systems or…ideologies…all consist of fragments from the Tao itself, arbitrarily wrenched from their context in the whole and then swollen to madness in their isolation, yet still owing to the Tao and to it alone such validity as they posses ….
…. An open mind, in questions that are not ultimate, is useful. But an open mind about the ultimate foundations either of Theoretical or of Practical Reason is idiocy. If a man's mind is open on these things, let his mouth at least be shut. He can say nothing to the purpose. Outside the Tao there is no ground for criticizing either the Tao or anything else.”
― C.S. Lewis, The Abolition of Man
We’re here because I’ve got a LOT of problems.
But, and here’s the catch - my problems are also YOUR problems.
In fact, my problems are EVERYONE’S problems.
But don’t worry - I’m here to help us solve them.
Or at least acknowledge they even exist in the first place because I’m not sure most of you are even aware of these massive, creeping problems that affect your every day life and will profoundly impact not just your future, but the future of your children, grandchildren, and our entire world, frankly.
At its core, TMB Problems is about the really important issues and problems that are riddled throughout our world, politics, countries, societies - whatever - which are not getting air time. They are steamrolled by the coverage of a lot of political infighting or a politician misreading a teleprompter or even celebrity marriages or divorces for that matter. Those things… don’t really matter. But they seem to be all we hear about.
I’m constantly shocked at the lack of information and knowledge possessed by smart people who just aren’t getting fed or reached by facts and science and real news.
It’s not okay.
Big serious things are happening, from male sperm count tanking and the global population decline, to China quietly taking over every 3rd world country’s infrastructure, to the lack and loss of virtue in our leaders.
If we focused, even just a little on these things, on these issues - we could change the game.
We could reclaim the world we are rapidly losing to glittering click bait forever claiming our attention and quickly distracting us from what is truly important on planet earth.
Some TMB takeaways:
We’re here to learn.
Learning is the pursuit of knowledge, which is really an act of submitting to truth.
You must obey reality - you cannot claim something that isn’t, simply out of desire.
Neutrality doesn’t exist in truth.
Courage is how we got here and every virtue at it’s testing point.
Truth is the order holding back the chaos.
The more tradition and virtue we have, the better off we are. Without it we will drown and society will crumble.
